Current Gun Laws In Vermont Are Reasonable

Current Gun Laws In Vermont Are Reasonable

By: Tanner Mashia

What do you think about the right to bear arms? Do you think they should change them? I believe that we should keep them the same. Criminals are the ones that disobey they laws. If we change the laws criminals will still find away to get weapons. I don’t think we should take such action to stricken gun laws if criminals can still get them. I believe that you should have to take a safety course in order to have a handgun. Current gun laws in Vermont are reasonable because they protect our right to bear arms for self defense and recreation and they do not prevent criminals from accessing guns.

Access to guns allow for self defense. Do you ever get the fear of others being armed helps prevent the crime passive self defense? I believe that every human being should be able to own a weapon either if its for protection or recreational use. If im in my home and someone breaks into my home i would like to have protection with me weather it is a rifle or hand gun. I believe that machine guns and Ak 47s are appropriate for this situations. I believe that the 2nd amendment should stay the same. When im at home i feel very safe with the guns that i have. I hope i don't have to ever use them at anytime.

More Restrictions would ruin the hunting industry. i am a hunter my self. I believe that the restrictions should stay the same way they are now. I feel safe in the woods with my rifle. One thing i think everyone should have to do is take a hunters safety course before they purchase a weapon. One for the safety factor that owning a gun brings. Another reason people will know how to shoot and operate a gun safe and well. Also if some people need to hunt to feed their families having the restrictions striker would ruin it for them.

Gun Restrictions don't prevent criminals from getting guns. If a criminal really wants to get a gun they will get one. If it have to be bought for them or snuck around they will be able to get a firearm. If we make the restrictions better i still think that criminals will still be able to get weapons. I don't think we should deal with the hassle of making the stricter if there not going to obey them. If we keep them the same it wont ruin anything at all. Even though criminals will still be able to get weapons i think that we will have to watch out and be aware of the situation. This is a good example on why we can use them for self defense.

I believe that we should keep gun restrictions the same so that it doesn't ruin the fun of other people. Keeping them the same will not be a hassle. I love to hunt and shoot for fun and i would not want to loose my privilege and im sure that goes for everyone else. So everyone uses guns the right way and stop causing trouble! Its like the driving laws if you don't obey them you will loose privileges.

My Interview

My Interview was about asking questions to a hinesburg police officer named Biran Fox. I asked him some questions about the right to bear arms. I was really suprised on his oppinions. I was suprised that he had the same opionion as me. I thought that, that was really interesting. Hes also a hunter, but he still would like to use his guns so dont I. I also found out that he would like to tighten the gun law up a little bit.

One of the hardest things for my interview was finding good questions. It was also hard to find questions that no body else had. I enjoyed listening to the cop tell us his oppinions on some things and also the facts about the right to bear arms. Something that was also hard was writing down everything he said. There was alot said that we had to right down. Over all I enjoyed the interview and i got some good feed back.

Stake Holders

Does owning a gun Make you safer. Some people have many different opinions on this. Some say yes it does and others say no. The people who say no are worried about there children using them with out there permisson and sometimes kids use them when they dont know how to shoot it. This leads to bad tragities, like death. Some things they could do is lock your guns up or put them in a place that a child can get to it easily.

The people who say yes owning a gun makes me safe, one of the reasons could be that if someone breaks into your house when your there you could have a gun just incase they start shooting at you. Alot of people who said yes are hunters, they want to keep there guns and so dont I. Having guns is ok but using them wrong isnt. If you have a child make sure you talk to him or her and hide it if possible.

Annotated Bibliography

Dempsey, Pete. Trial search panel presentation. CVUHS, Hinesburg VT, 28 Mar, 2011
Pete Dempsey is a Vermont state trooper. He explained how people that are criminals do not follow the law. Say if you need a gun because someone broke into your house, but you can’t have a gun what would you do? We as people need to take gun control seriously so that we can own and use guns. How if they need to get any kind of weapon that they can get it that’s why they are called criminals. He also talked about how he has caught people who are under the legal age for owning a gun and that just tells us how easy it is for anyone to get a gun.

Neilson, Adam Trial search panel presentation, CVUHS, Hinesburg VY. 28 Mar. 2011
Adam Neilson is a Sport shooter and a coach at the UVM shooters club, He explained about what his hobby/job is and why if there were more restrictions on guns that it would be harder to do his job and hobby. He also talked about how if someone wants to get a gun then they can easily get it. He love to sport shoot and if people don’t use guns the right way they will get banned and it will ruin sport shooting and a lot of people who love to hunt.

Panel Day Reflection

During the time that we had the panelest come in I personaly think that the panel list gave me alot of imformation that helped me understand my topic more. I like how they all said the same thing but each had a different way to explain it. They all said that criminals are the ones that break gun laws and abouse them. They all also talked about how in some state you have to have your fire arms registered they also talk about how you cant go into public with one without a permit. That law goes in other states.

Constitution Connection

The second amendment states that a well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. This being said anyone could say that they want a gun as home pertection. Others may say they want a weapon just to have. This issues floats both ways. There isnt really a side on it at the moment. There debating on it.

Court Cases
